Below are glimpses of this past summer when the girls shared and explored together in the woods, meadows, and wetlands playing and facing challenges. The girls worked alone, in pairs and as a group to create one match fires, weave hemp willow dream catchers, make rope out of milkweed, practice nature awareness skills, orient through the forest by internal compass, work together in group games & initiatives, enjoy herbal facials, drink tea together, share their stories, and learn to walk gently and quietly on the land.
Summer 2012
8 girls aged 9-12 enjoyed nature awareness games, carving wooden bowls and spoons, making cordage out of milkweed and nettle, ethically harvesting edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms such as young reishi for stir fry, milkweed blossoms in fritters, blackberry rasberry strawberry leaf for tea, orienteering by story line, making one match fires in a short period of time, night hiking, exploring various species, and sharing gifts with each other.
