To Whom It May Concern:
I have been asked to write this letter of recommendation by Jessica Rubin. I am a 36-year veteran teacher who is presently employed as a literacy/science coach for Caledonia North Supervisory Union. I have known Jessica for the past school year and have observed her teaching on several occasions.
Jessica's greatest asset is her command of the science content. Middle School science includes Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, as well as science process skills. Jessica is clearly highly qualified to teach any of these areas. Every activity she creates for her students reflects her in-depth knowledge of science concepts. Her lessons go well beyond the curriculum, giving students a deeper understanding of what they are studying.
Jessica is especially talented at teaching gifted and motivated students. Jessica works relentlessly to keep science activities both challenging and stimulating for middle level students. She has inspired several students, especially girls, to join an advanced class where students explore topics beyond the regular classroom. Watching these students you can see they have developed a sense of satisfaction for the high quality work they have accomplished.
Besides teaching, Jessica is passionately involved with environmental issues. She led her middle level team in developing an Earth day Fair where students got hands-on experience in a number of important environmental topics like composting. She started an Environmental club after school where students spend time greening up the school as well as educating their peers on environmental issues. Jessica is also involved in the recent movement concerning tar sands and the Portland Pipeline. She has gone to meetings in different towns in order to educate the public on the issues. She is willing to stand up and speak for what she believes. She models the values we as teachers strive to create in all our students.
Jessica's enthusiasm for science will be greatly missed. She would make a solid addition to any school or agency where a rigorous and stimulating science program is expected.
Please e-mail or call if you have any questions.
Sincerely yours,
Lois A. Michaud
