Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to recommend Jessica Rubin to your program.
Jessica worked with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) during the 2007 Summer Field Season. The VYCC is a statewide, non-profit organization that utilizes conservation and park management projects to achieve it’s mission: teaching individuals to take personal responsibility for all of their actions.
I was able to work closely with Jessica as her direct supervisor. Her role as a Wilderness Crew Leader for two residential summer crews entailed co-leading a group of ten young people between the ages of 18 and 24 on conservation projects. These crews worked shoulder to shoulder, building a healthy living community and increasing the public’s awareness of environmental issues. As they lived and worked together, Jessica was responsible for supervising work projects and achieving project goals, facilitating a daily education program, evaluating Corps Members on a weekly basis while supporting leadership development, consistently upholding VYCC policies and expectations, and working with her co-leader to build and maintain a strong sense of community in each crew.
Jessica’s ability to connect with diverse groups of young people, the initiative she consistently took in addressing challenges in the field, and her ability to maintain focus on the big picture while navigating the daily responsibilities of residential crew life made her an effective group facilitator and VYCC Crew Leader. It is also these qualities that, I believe, will make her an excellent addition to your program.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions about this reference.
Sincerely,
Christa Finnern
