Dump Cleanup Project; OVWS, East Montpelier, VT.

Picture
_As Earthcrafts teacher at Orchard Valley Waldorf School I noticed when consciously wandering with the children, an old farm dump at the edge of the tributary running through the north part of our school's land; its heavy metal residue undoubtedly leaching into our watershed. I wrote a grant to Ben & Jerry's Community Action Team and secured enough funding to spearhead the initial dump clean up days. After this we were able to have the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps finish the job under a watershed restoration grant.

Green Mountain Corridor Monitoring: Johnson Bissel Tract; Johnson, VT.

Picture
Since Winter 2010 I have served as the "eyes and ears" for this section of the Long Trail and its surrounding corridor. At least once a season I walk the 72 acre perimeter checking on boundary conditions, maintaining through refreshing blazes and posting stewardship signs where needed. I note any encroachments/violations of ATV and 4WD use, unauthorized timber cutting, and construction of new trails or roads. I gather trash, fill out a report, continue inventorying habitat, and communicate with neighboring land owners who have diverse views on forest stewardship.

Endangered Plant Trail: United Plant Savers; OVWS, East Montpelier, VT.

Picture
This endangered plant trail is part of the United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary Network. Through grants and with the help of Volunteers for Peace, local conservationists, herbalists, and students, we were able to plant 16 species of endangered medicinal plants, make this deer trail more accessible for two leggeds, create an entry and exit kiosk garden, as well as an informative brochure. The trail is maintained seasonally by myself and a small UPS team of parents and students, walked by many, and studied by few.

__Ethically Rewilding our Urban Hub; VBC & Apple Core, Montpelier, VT.

Picture
_
A group of us earth tenders in the Winooski Valley Permaculture Collective have co-designed and begun to implement permaculture polyculture plantings throughout the city to reopen portals in this hub to be a more edible, medicinal, and sustainable habitat. In addition to providing more architecture for a diversified habitat of various species, some of these gardens provide produce to the food pantries.

Teshuvah Roots; Central VT.

In spring of 2010 I founded, Teshuvah Roots, a permaculture gardening service for the greater Montpelier area. Throughout the spring, summer and fall this service has assisted over 15 clients in creating forest gardens, maintaining existing gardens, installing medicinal gardens, creating backyard subsistence gardens, and designing plans for living landscapes in the orientation of working with the natural systems already in place.
