Girls enjoying one of our after school programs, 'Power of Plants.' We made tooth powder, salve, lozenges, fire cider, herbal oil, lots of different teas, and enjoyed herbal facials. This spring we plan to plant perennials in the school garden to increase habitat and provide medicine for others.

To Whom it May Concern,
I have gotten to know Jessica Rubin over the past year as a colleague at Lyndon Town School. Jess was hired as the seventh and eighth grade science teacher. I was assigned to work with her in the Teacher Mentoring program. As her Mentor, I have gotten to know Jess quite well as we meet on a weekly basis to discuss the successes and challenges of school life and work to better understand and develop as a teacher using the Danielson Model Framework for Teaching. While working with Jess, I have found her to be a knowledgeable, dedicated, and conscientious professional.
Jess has a passion for science and our environment. This is evident when you talk with her about the assignments and labs that she is preparing for her students. She is able to give real life examples from her experiences working in the outdoors with our environment. She has taken it upon herself to offer environmental science extracurricular clubs with the middle school students such as the Power of Plants Club and the Environmental Action Club. As an enrichment she has offered the Outing Club where students play nature awareness games, collect data for a Citizen Sciene Survey, and practice outdoor living skills. If you spend some time talking with Jess you will find that she has spent her adult life sharing and teaching others about science and the environment.
I have been in Jess’ class room when she was teaching 8th grade about the atmosphere and greenhouse gasses. When students walked into the room, it appeared they knew exactly what to do as they sat down to get to work on the “warm-up” exercise that appeared on the screen. She engaged all students in responding to questions regarding the warm-up and homework. I also sat-in on a 7th grade Chemistry class where students followed the same procedures. In both classes, students were I then involved in dynamic labs through which they could furthur develop their understanding of the concepts being explored. Jess has also organized special guest speakers as experts in the science field to come in and share their expertise.
I find that Jess is a very dedicated professional. When I arrive at school, her car is always there and it is still in the parking lot when I leave, often as late as 6:00 p.m. She is conscientious and is always looking to find better methods of helping her students learn and be successful. Jess has shared with me a number of books that she has recently read to help improve her own skills as a teacher. She has visited a number of other teachers’ classrooms to find best practices that might help her become even a better teacher. I know that she spends nights and week-ends preparing lessons and providing feedback to student work. She attends after school activities such as basketball games and works with After the Bell, our after school program. Jess has discussed with me a number of professional development opportunities that she hopes to take part in by the end of this school year and over the summer.
Jessica Rubin is a very knowledgeable, dedicated, and conscientious teaching professional. She is committed to sharing science with youth and works diligently to prepare and provide lessons to help youth learn. I feel that she would be an asset to any faculty.
